I’m still learning, absorbing, growing. I do “floral design” but I certainly don’t know every flower out there. In fact I feel like I don’t spend enough time exploring the plethora of options. So, that’s what I am going to do. I am going to pick one flower/plant a week to feature. This will help me, as a designer, begin to expand my horizons and I also feel as though it will remind me of a funky flower I may have forgotten about.

I hope you will enjoy this weekly post as well. If you have any suggestions, questions or ideas please let me know. If you see something you love and don’t know what it is…send it my way. I’ll do a post about it.

So…without further ado…this weeks featured friday flower:

Muscari

I chose Muscari for this week because I have noticed quite a few clients and brides asking for purple and blue hues. This flower comes to mind. Muscari is also commonly known as grape hyacinths. To me adding this flower gives bouquets a “just picked from the garden look” but can be more modern looking when on its own and in mass.

footzyrolls

Wondering if anyone has a pair of these FootzyRolls. They look like they would be heavenly on your feet after a long day, night out, or even just a cute option to wear out running errands and doing every day schtuff! They roll up into such a teeny tiny little bag they seem as though they would get lots of use. Just keep ’em in your purse, work bag, or diaper bag for when your tootsies need a break! And almost more importantly they’re $25!

This would be a cute bridesmaid gift idea instead of the usual pair of flip-flops? I know I’d appreciate a pair 😉

I find myself cooking with garlic a lot. I love it. Though I have to admit I really don’t know how to prepare it and whenever I have it in my fridge or house I hate how it stinks up everything. This frozen crushed garlic has become my absolute favorite Trader Joes purchase as of late. Doesn’t stink up the fridge. So easy to use. Just pop a few cubes out and done.

Wonder what you all think. I’m sure it’s not quite as good as the fresh stuff but for me this does the trick and eliminates the hassle and mess of fresh garlic cloves.

dry shampoo

Apparently it’s better for your hair if you don’t shampoo and condition it every day in the shower. I used to use that as my excuse when I was too lazy to shower. Now I just pull that card because I haven’t had time to shower. Either way a girls gotta have a dry shampoo around. It works wonders. My all time fave is the bumble and bumble product but I was recently prompted to try a new drug store brand when I read Elizabeth Dehn’s Beauty Bets tweet. She knows beauty products. It was actually $5 at target not the $3.99 that Elizabeth got it for…but I still thought that was a steal!

baby bellies

It appears to be a popular search: pregnant belly, baby bellies… Those words have been constantly appearing in my most frequently searched section of the blog. There must be a lot of babies baking this time of year! I know Bo is expecting about 10 new friends within the next 5 months. Crazy.

The whole pregnant belly search made me think back about how huge my belly was especially when compared to that of my friend, Greta. Just insane how women can carry so differently. Our due dates were 7 DAYS apart…she was due BEFORE me. Our babies were actually born only two days apart. Greta (on the right in the first picture) gave birth to a little girl weighing 6lbs 8oz. I (on the left in the first picture) gave birth to a little boy weighing 6lbs 15oz. I could have sworn my baby was going to be a 10lb’er. I Guess I just took too many trips to DQ last summer. Ahhhh….but it was fun!

This is so random. I am aware. I just spent a while reminiscing as I looked at the most commonly searched words. It was fun.

How’s your baby belly? Dare to share pics?

shower flowers

My camera is back up and working – found the battery! So, wanted to share photos from a couple of events last week. Colors for the events were hot pink, blue, olive green & red.

You have to check this out. A magnificent and fantabulous wedding by Amorology. Totally dig the bride’s bouquet, the funky style, theme and I think that the altar that Twigg Botanicals created is out of this world.

Thinking about what to do next in my pots. Here are a few ideas that I loved. All from Sunset. What are you doing in your pots/containers this season? I’m thinking about doing all greens and little to no blooms. I would love to hear your big ideas, too!

love the potted veggies. if only i could learn to keep them alive!

t-shirt quilt

I have a bag of old t-shirts in my basement. They are old t-shirts from highschool, college and possibly even a few from grade school. You know…those t-shirts that mean something, have a million memories attached to them but you just don’t know what to do with them? Wear them? No. They’re too small, too worn, or too old. But we all know that we simply can’t part with them.

I have always thought that I would turn them into a quilt. I’ve envisioned using the quilt for picnics, baseball games, trips to the park. So cute – right? Well of course it’s been years and I have never done anything about this.

Well, I was recently inspired again. Thinking about actually pulling the trigger on this one. Design Mom (LOVE this blog) just did a recent post about a company that makes these silly t-shirt quilts! Check them out. Couldn’t you use something like this?

Does anyone else know of other companies or possibly local people who provide a similar service?

weekend flowers

Here’s what I’m working on right now. Two smaller events this weekend. Will post photos of the finished products soon.
